Indeed CEO: College students’ skills may be ‘obsolete’ due to AI (nypost.com)
College students and their parents continue to ask the question: is going to college worth it? Earning a degree is expensive and that means either paying out of pocket or taking on student loan debt. So are you likely to see a return on your education investment or will your financial plan crumble?
The CEO from Indeed, a large job placement firm, warns college students that they may be learning skills right now that will be obsolete when they graduate. We’ve heard a lot about next-gen AI tools causing job losses and he makes the case that these jobs losses will be seen in the future with a sharp decline in demand for college graduates in some academic majors.
The article tells us about ChatGPT 3 scoring a B on the Wharton School MBA exam which leaves us wondering – just what exactly will ChatGPT 5 and 6 be capable of?
We’ll remind our readers of an article we published just a few weeks ago covering which jobs are safe from AI. But the picture remains bleak. The article also doesn’t offer any help to college students about what academic majors or skills they should be focused on.
We recommend you remain involved as you can be with your college for job placement if you’re already there. Also begin actively looking to see what careers are available for your academic major and think about what else you need to get noticed. And don’t forget, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Spend some time using these next-gen artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, midjourney, and others. We recommend our cheat sheet and tools page as a good jumping off point.
